Impressions of Wrotham Park Lodge

Located 300 kilometres west of Cairns in the Cape York Peninsula Wrotham Park Lodge is situated on a working cattle station covering 600,000 hectares of land breeding approximately 30,000 cattle.

Access to the station is from Cairns by either light aircraft (approximately 45 minutes scenic flight) or by car (approximately 5 hours drive). The flight is a fantastic way to view the rainforest and the outback all within a one-hour experience.

Upon arriving at Wrotham Park Station you immediately notice the harsh rugged land that surrounds the homestead and the beauty of the true Australian outback. The Lodge is a short drive from the airstrip and consists of the Homestead and ten 'guest' quarters, catering for a maximum of twenty. The property is set on the banks of the Mitchell River and offers deluxe accommodation and facilities.

Guests gather at The Homestead for meals, cocktails and to recount tales of the day's activities. The lounge at the Homestead offers guests a self-service bar while the library has a television for those who want news from the outside world.

All meals are served at The Homestead on a communal basis enabling guests to interact with one other. Modern Australian gourmet fare has an emphasis on the local produce including the world-renowned '1824' brand. The Station Managers join guests on some evenings at Wrotham Park Lodge, enhancing their dining experience.

The accommodation at Wrotham Park Lodge is luxurious. The guest quarters overlook the Mitchell River inspired by the colours of the outback. The accommodation is spacious and very comfortable featuring awe-inspiring bathrooms with amazing views over the river and outback Australia. Guests at Wrotham Park enjoy amenities you would expect at an international five-star hotel.

The property offers a wide range of touring and activities enabling guests to experience the operation of a working cattle station and life in outback Australia. You will share a unique experience on tours at Wrotham Park with fellow guests and programmes are no longer than half a day in duration.

During my visit I took the half-day station tour, which was a fantastic experience. The team at Wrotham Park Lodge who operate the tour programmes have an in-depth knowledge of the property providing guests with not only the history of the station but also an insight into the wildlife and geology of the land. The first stop on this tour is the Mouth Organ Yards where you will see the cattle performing a variety of their daily duties depending on the season. A staff member from the yard escorts guests and explains the operation of the station and life in the outback. Other stops on the tour include The Old Telegraph Station, The Lagoon and Gamboola Station

The wide variety of activities available at Wrotham Park include canoeing, fishing, cattle mustering, star gazing, nature walks, country chef cooking demonstrations, mountain bike riding, bocce and horse riding.

Wrotham Park Lodge is ideal for guests wanting to experience the classic outback of Australia in comfort and style! As Wrotham Park Station is located only 45 minutes by air from Cairns, it is a perfect location for those, with limited time, but who to experience the outback of Australia.

Wrotham Park Lodge tariff includes all meals and beverages and there is a minimum age requirement of 16 years for children.
