At the foot of New Zealand’s tallest mountain amidst some of the country’s most spectacular alpine scenery is one of New Zealand’s most historic hotels.
The original Hermitage Hotel at Aoraki Mount Cook was opened to adventurous travellers in 1884 and for over 120 years has continued to provide its visitors with its very special brand of hospitality. While the original hotel has been rebuilt, modernized and refurbished over the years, including a major redevelopment in 2001, the Hermitage spirit of luxurious alpine accommodation has always been unrivalled. The deluxe Aoraki Wing rooms each feature exceptional picture window views of Aoraki Mount Cook and Mount Sefton. Natural timber and stone components compliment the Hotel lobby, restaurant and bar areas.
In late 2007 The Hermitage opened a $7.5 million state-of- the-art museum and theatre showcasing the history of climbing and transport in the Mount Cook region. Walk or hike in the National Park to enjoy the pristine mountain air, alternatively take a flightseeing option and land on the Tasman Glacier.
