Like its sister property, Bamurru Plains in the Northern Terrtiory's Top End, Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef captures the essence of 'wild bush luxury' - the recognition that an escape to the wilderness does not have to forgo certain comforts: a supremely comfortable bed, crisp sheets, soft bath towels, ensuite bathroom facilities and delicious food and wine.
Nestled between the turquoise waters of the Ningaloo Reef and the rugged limestone gorges of the Cape Range National Park, Sal Salis' 5 freestanding safari style tents have been created to operate in harmony with this fragile environment. Connected to the main camp by a series of boardwalks so as to minimise the environmental impact, each tent offers privacy, comfort and an escape from the everyday.
Meals are a communal affair shared by lamplight on a deck overlooking the dunes to the sun setting over the Indian Ocean. Contemporary Australian cuisine with hints of bush food and native produce are prepared fresh by the resident chef and shared with your hosts and fellow guests, making for memorable evenings spent with new friends. A self-service bar and open lounge area provides a great spot to sit and relax just about any time of the day.
Surrounded by such spectacular natural beauty, there is no shortage of nature based activities to choose from. Colourful coral gardens, graceful turtles and schools of tropical fish greet shorkellers just metres from the shore, whilst a short guided walk inland is rewarded with stunning views and fossil bearing limestone gorges. Sea kayaks are the perfect way to explore the reefs of the 'Blue Lagoon' and there are kilometres of unspoilt sandy beaches to stretch your legs out on. Whichever option you choose you are bound to meet up with some of the locals - red kangaroos, wallaroos, goannas, kestrels, reef herons, butcherbirds, emus and loggerhead turtles among them.
For those who are keen to venture just a little further, deep sea fishing charters are well rewarded and a cruise to swim with the majestic giant Whale Sharks (April to June) is an experience that will live with you forever.
Flora, Fauna & Wildlife In the waters of the Ningaloo Reef and on shore in the Cape Range, Sal Salis offers access to a superb collection of Australian bird, animal and marine life in their natural habitats. Manta rays, turtles and the majestic whale sharks (April to June), red kangaroos, wallaroos and goannas; Reef Heron, fairy wrens and kestrels are just some of the locals you are likely to meet during your stay at Sal Salis.
Hiking & Walking Kilometres of sandy beaches just perfect for beachcombing lie in front of the camp. Whilst 2kms behind the camp, the walk up the fossil lined Mandu Mandu limestone gorge is a step back in time and the coastal views are spectacular.
Soft Adventure No jetskis or bungee jumping here, just 100% natural adventures - walking the limestone gorges of the Cape Range National Park, snorkelling Ningaloo Reef's turquoise waters, paddling a sea kayak gently across the Blue Lagoon or gazing up at the sparkling night lights of the Milky Way.
Ultimate Relaxation No traffic, no television, no telephone .. just fresh air, spectacular scenery, outstanding wildlife, delicious food and wine and divinely comfortable beds.
