Flora, Fauna & Wildlife See turtle hatchlings emerge from their nests (December to April), swim with graceful manta rays (May to October) and watch humpback whales as they pass by on their annual migration to and from warmer waters (June to October). Year round, the resort also offers guided reef walks, spectacular dives and the opportunity to snorkel straight off the beach to come face to face with a kaleidoscope of marine life or wander the island’s dense Pisonia forests, home to thousands of Noddy Terns and Shearwater Mutton Birds.
Diving A true coral cay, Heron Island forms part of the Great Barrier Reef. Here, you can snorkel out from the beach to explore an endless garden of coral teeming with brightly coloured marine life. There are more than 20 different dive sites within easy reach of the resort. Their proximity to the island and each other allows for up to 3 dives per day. Diving and snorkeling instruction is offered and all equipment is available for hire. Private charters to isolated sites, night dives and spectacular adventure dives are also on offer.
